Double Ninth Festival: Invitation to Chestnut Rice

September 9 is the Double Ninth Festival—also known as the Chrysanthemum Festival and the Chestnut Festival.
The illustration shows a little budgie wondering, “Shall I cook chestnut rice today?”
In the Edo period, people celebrated this day with chestnut rice, so perhaps it’s especially delicious around this season.
I tried to capture a traditional Japanese mood with koto and shakuhachi.
